Our BJJ Programme: Beginners – Intermediate/Advanced

Our BJJ programme is split into two main groups – Beginners and Intermediate-Advanced. No matter what level you’re at or what goals you have, we have something for you. For more information on our BJJ programme and the requirements for each group, please read below.

Beginners (Ages 15 and up)

Suitable for complete beginners, regardless of age, gender, size, fitness levels or flexibility. Open to teenagers and adults, but with a minimum weight requirement of 50kg for teens. There will always be a main coach and one to two assistant coaches per class, in order to ensure that everyone gets the attention and training that they deserve.

We run beginners classes 5 days a week from Mondays to Saturdays (see timetable here). Mondays to Fridays are in the gi, and Saturday mornings are No-Gi. Our classes are highly structured, and based upon a beginners programme developed by our head coach which will take you through the all the basics that you need to know in order to progress to the next level.

Each cycle of the program lasts for approximately 12 weeks, and you are welcome to join at any point during the cycle. It does get progressively more complicated, so do let us know if you would prefer to join when the programme cycles back to the beginning instead.

There is no full sparring in the beginners classes, only positional sparring.

You will need a BJJ gi for these classes. For the No-Gi class on Saturdays, you will require a separate kit (please see here).

Intermediate / Advanced

We have three different levels of classes for intermediate and advanced level students.

Intermediate classes are only for white belts who are no longer complete beginners. You need to at minimum know all the basic warm up movements, understand the basic positions (closed guard, mount, side control, half guard) and submissions (armbar, triangle, omoplata, kimura, cross collar choke) and able to perform them competently.

Advanced classes are only open to blue belts and above. Even if you didn’t earn your blue belt with us, as long as you are a coloured belt, you cannot attend the intermediate class.

Intermediate-Advanced classes are mixed level classes that are somewhere between Intermediate and Advanced levels. You need to have fully cleared the Beginners programme to be moved up to Inter-Advanced. For experienced students joining us, we state a 6 month training experience requirement, but our coach reserves the right to determine if your level is suitable for this class or not. We expect students in this class to have strong fundamentals, a solid understanding of all the basic positions and submissions in BJJ, and a positive attitude towards learning and receiving feedback. You need to know the rules and scoring systems under the IBJJF ruleset (for starters). If you are unsure about your level, you can sign up for a free trial class anyway and let us know about your training experience. Our coaches will assess you during your trial class.

Intermediate to Advanced classes are available 6 days a week, from Mondays to Saturdays (see timetable here). We are always open to adding more classes should there be sufficient demand for it.
