Intermediate – Advanced classes are mixed level classes that are somewhere between Intermediate and Advanced levels. You need to have done two cycles of the Beginners programme to be moved up to Inter-Advanced. You need to at minimum know all the basic warm up movements, understand the basic positions (closed guard, mount, side control, half guard) and submissions (armbar, triangle, omoplata, kimura, cross collar choke) and able to perform them competently. For experienced students joining us, we state a 6 month training experience requirement, but our coach reserves the right to determine if your level is suitable for this class or not.
We expect students in the Intermediate – Advanced class to have strong fundamentals, a solid understanding of all the basic positions and submissions in BJJ, and a positive attitude towards learning and receiving feedback. You need to learn the rules and scoring systems under the IBJJF ruleset (for starters).
Inter-Advanced classes are structured in 6 week blocks, with each block focusing on a particular theme or position. The block is split up into 4 weeks of technique and 2 weeks of specific training. Every class starts with drills for warm-ups and revision, and ends with sparring.
If you are unsure about your level, you can sign up for a free trial class anyway and let us know about your training experience. Our coaches will assess you during your trial class.
Intermediate-Advanced classes are available 6 days a week, from Mondays to Saturdays (see timetable here). We are always open to adding more classes should there be sufficient demand for it. Our early morning classes are in perpetual danger of getting axed, so please help support the 6.30am crew numbers if you can wake up early.
