No-Gi Grappling

no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

At Studio NW2, we consider No-Gi to be the most Advanced class that students can attend. Compared to training in the Gi, athleticism goes a much longer way in No-Gi, so we prefer students to develop a solid technical foundation before jumping into No-Gi classes.

The Inter-Advanced No-Gi classes run in 4 to 6 week blocks. We try to plan them so specific training weeks in both Gi and No-Gi don’t clash. Depending on whether it’s a normal cycle or a mini cycle, there will be 2 to 4 weeks of technique followed by 2 weeks of specific training. Every class starts with drills for warm-ups and revision, and ends with sparring.

There are No-Gi classes on 6 days a week, Mondays to Fridays for Intermediate-Advanced students and Saturdays for Beginners (Please see timetable here). The Beginners No-Gi session forms part of our Beginners programme, so we do not allow Beginners to join ONLY the No-Gi session. For the same reason, we do not take trial students in the Saturday No-Gi Beginners class.

Students are required to be dressed appropriately for No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. This means:
– Rashguard (No T-shirts allowed!)
– Grappling shorts without zippers or pockets
– Spats or compression shorts can be worn UNDER a pair of grappling shorts
